How well you see depends on the shape of your cornea, which is the eye’s clear covering. In nearsighted people, the cornea is too round. In farsighted people, the cornea is too flat. People with astigmatism have a football-shaped cornea.
Dr. Mann and his team perform LASIK in their Houston, Katy and Austin offices to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contacts by reshaping the cornea so that it can focus light correctly on the retina. With IntrasLase™, a thin layer of the corneal cap is lifted by the laser. Dr. Mann utilizes the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q excimer laser to precisely reshape the tissue of the cornea to your unique refraction. Then the flap is replaced and bonds in place without stitches. Rest assured that you will be comfortable and aware of each step of the LASIK process as it is happening. We make sure there are no surprises and our patients know exactly what to expect!
THE LASIK PROCEDURE
1. First, a small, thin section of the front of your cornea is lifted using the IntraLase technique. This corneal flap stays attached to the cornea on one side.
2. Dr. Mann will position the laser and ask you to focus on a red fixation light overhead. He will activate the laser and begin reshaping the cornea tissue. Each pulse removes a microscopic layer of cornea. The exact location pattern for the laser beam is determined by a precise "wavefront" map of your eye. Total laser time for most patients averages fewer than 10 seconds.
3. Then, the corneal flap is put back in place. Stitches are not necessary as the flap seals itself naturally. The center of the cornea is now reshaped, so light rays are focused more directly on the retina and images are in better focus. In just minutes, your vision becomes clearer!
Mann Eye Institute was the first vision correction center in Houston and Austin to offer the Blade-Free LASIK procedure using a combination of the advanced IntraLase™ and ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q lasers. Dr. Mann uses some of the world's most advanced laser techniques and technologies – an advantage that offers our patients increased predictability, safety and precise visual outcomes.
