Are you suffering from Dry Eyes?
For over 86% of patients with dry eye is meibomian gland dysfunction is the main reason.
meibomian gland dysfunction occurs when the protective oil that normally flows from the eyelid (meibomian) glands slows or stops. Over time, blockage and structural damage of the glands occurs. The oil acts as the front line of protection for the tears and lubricates the surface of the eyes when you blink. When these glands are not healthy, it causes the tear film to rapidly evaporate, leaving the eye’s surface exposed. This exposure can cause discomfort that increases over time and impacts quality of vision. This can result in irritating dry eye symptoms. A routine check for MGD as a part of any eye exam is recommended.
More than 100 million people worldwide suffer from dry eye, which is often painful, persistent and annoying. Common symptoms of dry eye include dryness, grittiness, soreness, irritation, burning and eye fatigue.
“The LipiFlow® is a great new option for our patients who suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome. As a person with long-term dry eyes, I have benefited from the procedure myself. In my years of medicine, I’ve yet to find a treatment or technology that comes close to the relief we can provide with the LipiFlow. I’m thrilled to have the LipiFlow as a new treatment option for our patients suffering from dry eyes!”
Paul Mann, MD
Historically, common dry eye treatments included warm compresses, drops and prescription drugs but patients consistently request a more long-term, efficient solution for relief of dry eye symptoms.
On this note, we are pleased to introduce the LipiFlow System, a revolution in the treatment of dry eye. The new LipiFlow treatment addresses the root cause of evaporative dry eye, the most common form of dry eye, by unblocking the meibomian glands that secrete oily lipids. In controlled clinical studies of patients who received a single LipiFlow treatment, the average meibomian gland score at 4 weeks increased by 2-3 times over the baseline condition!
The LipiFlow System is a non-invasive, in-office treatment that takes only minutes to complete for each eye. Many patients report noticeable improvement in the days following the LipiFlow treatment, with relief continuing to improve 3-4 weeks following the procedure.
