LASIK Technology

Remaining on the forefront of vision correction technology, the surgeons at Mann Eye Institute are pleased to offer our patients in Austin and Houston All-Laser LASIK with the FS200 femtosecond laser, an essential component to our WaveLight System for customized, all-laser vision correction.

The FS200 laser is utilized during step one of the LASIK procedure to create the corneal flap. This advanced laser is designed with enhanced speed and accuracy for highly precise, reproducible results. In fact, treatment time with the FS200 laser is greatly reduced compared to other femtosecond lasers or the microkeratome blade, with the average treatment time lasting only 6 seconds.

Additionally, the FS200 can provide a more customized procedure for each patient. Your eyes are as unique as your fingerprint, which means the more we can tailor your procedure to your precise vision needs, the more predictable, consistent outcomes we are able to achieve.

EX500 Excimer LaserAt Mann Eye Institute, 100 percent patient satisfaction is our goal. We take pride in introducing the latest vision care technologies to further enhance your results.

We are pleased to announce that patients now have the benefit of the new EX500 Excimer Laser, an advanced technology that reaches the next level of precision, accuracy and speed. Paired with the FS200 Femtosecond Laser, as part of our advanced WaveLight Refractive Surgery Suite, treatment with the EX500 represents a quantum leap in LASIK Surgery.

Patients have reported excellent results, faster recovery times and sharper vision during the day and night – as well as reduced potential for problems with glare or halos in low-light conditions.

Fast, Accurate & Customized

One of the many advantages of the new EX500 is its speed. The average time it takes to reshape the corneal surface is approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter, a remarkably quick process that benefits patients in many ways. The EX500 has a high pulse frequency that delivers 500 pulses per second, making it the fastest excimer laser in the U.S. today.

The FS200 Femtosecond Laser also sets a record for speed by creating a custom corneal flap in approximately six seconds. Why is speed important? The faster the flap is created, the less potential exists for dehydration of the cornea, which in turn reduces the risk for swelling and inflammation. It can also help speed up the healing process and lead to quicker recovery times.

In addition, the FS200 offers a fully customized treatment with Wavefront Optimized and Wavefront-Guided capability, ensuring that individual differences in vision errors and the eye’s anatomy are taken into consideration for every patient.

Precision Tracking

Today’s excimer lasers incorporate high-tech infrared eye trackers to eliminate any concern about involuntary movements of the eye or any issues with patient “fixation” fatigue. The ability to monitor eye movements is critical to correct placement of the laser pulse. Innovative engineering on the EX500 takes sensitivity to eye movements to the next level.

The EX500 multi-dimensional eye tracker is synchronized at 500 Hz, 10 times faster than the human eye. The tracker continually checks the position of the eye and automatically readjusts the timing of the laser as needed to ensure perfect placement of each laser pulse.

Widest Treatment Range Possible

For patients who were previously not a candidate for LASIK, the new EX500 offers yet another benefit. It has the widest treatment range possible for patients with the most common vision errors – hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.

The EX500’s wide treatment range is an improvement that brings Mann Eye Institute even closer to our goal of being able to offer permanent vision correction for everyone who desires it. If you would like to discover whether you may qualify for treatment with the EX500, call our office to schedule a free consultation, or click here to book online.

ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q excimer laser
In keeping with our ongoing commitment to remain at the forefront of vision correction, the Mann Eye Institute offers one of the newest and most technologically advanced laser systems, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q excimer laser. We are proud to be the first vision correction center in Houston and Austin to treat our patients with one of the latest advancements in laser vision correction and state-of-the-art care — Blade Free LASIK and the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q laser system. This advancement in vision correction technology offers patients increased speed, accuracy and safety.

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q Excimer Laser is one of the newest generations of excimer laser technology and is the first system to receive concurrent approval for the treatment of both nearsightedness and farsightedness. The treatment profile for this laser was developed after intense study of individuals who have what is called “super vision,” or vision that is better than 20/20. The laser reshapes the cornea of your eye to mimic the pattern of eyes with “super vision” with unparalleled customization. Due to the laser’s unique wavefront-optimized ablation algorithm, the system delivers superior clinical results and a maximum level of safety for our patients.

The ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q Excimer Laser is a “WaveFront-optimized” system. WaveFront technology not only corrects a patient’s prescription but aims to improve the “quality” of vision during daylight and prevent problems with night vision. The system also has a unique eye-tracking system which automatically adjusts to changes in pupil size during treatment.
