Just as smartphones have evolved from basic communication devices to sophisticated computers in our pockets, LASIK technology has undergone its own transformation. The procedure available today represents a quantum leap beyond what was possible even five years ago.

At Mann Eye Institute, we believe our patients deserve access to the most advanced technology available, which is why we’ve invested in what we consider “the iPhone moment of LASIK.”

What is Wavelight Plus?

Mann Eye Institute is proud to be the first practice in Texas and third in the nation to offer the Wavelight Plus system, which represents the next generation of laser vision correction technology. Unlike traditional LASIK systems that rely on separate measurements and equipment, Wavelight Plus integrates multiple diagnostic and treatment systems into one seamless device.

This integration allows for unprecedented precision in vision correction procedures. SightMap performs thousands of precise measurements to map how light focuses in your eye, creating a detailed guide for personalized vision correction.

This allows our LASIK surgeons to deliver truly personalized vision correction that addresses not just basic refractive errors like nearsightedness and farsightedness, but also subtle irregularities that can affect visual quality.

The results speak for themselves.

Clinical outcomes demonstrate that:

What is SightMap and How Does it Work?

SightMap is the diagnostic technology within the Wavelight Plus system that creates a detailed analysis of your eye’s optical system. SightMap measures how light waves are distorted as they pass through your cornea and lens, revealing not only basic refractive errors but also subtle optical imperfections that affect visual quality.

These measurements create a completely customized treatment plan that addresses your eye’s specific optical fingerprint rather than applying a standard correction based on your glasses prescription.

What Makes Wavelight Plus Unique?

Traditional LASIK procedures typically address the major refractive errors in your eyes, which certainly improves vision significantly. However, Wavelight Plus goes several steps further with four key advantages:

Enhanced Vision Quality

Wavelight Plus addresses what we call higher-order aberrations. These are tiny imperfections that can affect the quality and sharpness of your vision, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

While traditional LASIK corrects basic vision problems like nearsightedness and farsightedness, this advanced technology fine-tunes your vision for exceptional clarity in all lighting situations.

Integrated Precision

Rather than taking measurements with one device, analyzing them separately, and then performing surgery with another machine, Wavelight Plus combines ocular wavefront analysis, corneal topography, and precise biometry measurements in one process. This helps to reduce and even eliminate potential errors that can occur when transferring data between different systems.

Real-Time Eye Tracking

Another significant advantage is the system’s ability to track your eye movements during surgery. Your eyes naturally make tiny movements, even when you’re trying to hold them perfectly still.

Wavelight Plus tracks these movements up to 1,050 times per second and adjusts the laser treatment accordingly, ensuring precise correction regardless of minor eye movements.

Faster, More Comfortable Treatment

The laser itself operates at an incredibly fast pulse rate, completing treatments more quickly than traditional systems. Faster treatment times mean less time for your eye to dry out during the procedure, contributing to better healing and comfort.

Am I a Candidate for Wavelight Plus?

Most people who are candidates for traditional LASIK are also excellent candidates for NextLevel LASIK with Wavelight Plus.

Additionally, the advanced diagnostic capabilities of the system allow us to help some patients who might not have been ideal candidates for older LASIK technology!

Generally, good candidates for Wavelight Plus are:

  • Adults over 18 whose vision has been stable for at least a year
  • Those who are in good overall health without certain autoimmune conditions that can affect healing
  • Those with corneas thick enough to safely reshape,
  • Those who are not pregnant or nursing, as hormonal changes can temporarily affect vision.

What’s particularly exciting about Wavelight Plus is that it can often provide excellent results for people with higher levels of refractive error or more complex prescriptions than previous technology could address effectively. The system’s ability to create highly customized treatments means we can help patients who might have been told they weren’t good LASIK candidates in the past.

During your comprehensive consultation at Mann Eye Institute, your eye doctor will perform detailed measurements and assessments to determine not just whether you’re a candidate for vision correction, but specifically how Wavelight Plus can optimize your individual visual outcome.
