Mann Eye Institute Welcomes Esteemed Retina Specialist and Surgeon
We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Andreas Gonzalez, M.D., the newest addition to our esteemed medical team. Dr. Gonzalez specializes in the medical and surgical management of diseases of the retina and vitreous, and comes to Texas to provide exceptional and compassionate care to the residents of Houston.
Dr. Gonzalez earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Florida, Gainesville. His educational journey continued with transitional studies at Indiana University, Indianapolis, before specializing in Ophthalmology back at the University of Florida. Dr. Gonzalez further honed his skills through Vitreoretinal Surgery training at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Demonstrating a commitment to excellence, Dr. Gonzalez achieved board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2020.
Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Gonzalez has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Florida Bright Futures Scholarship and induction into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. His commitment to compassionate care in medicine is exemplified by the Arnold P. Gold Humanism UF Chapman Honor Society Induction.
Dr. Gonzalez has not only excelled academically but has also shown a strong commitment to service and leadership. Serving as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida, he has contributed significantly to medical education, earning the UF Department of Ophthalmology Resident of the Year award.
His leadership extends beyond clinical duties, having been involved in various committees and groups, such as the UF Ophthalmology Residency Admissions Selection Committee, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society Selection Committee, and the American College Health Association.
Dr. Gonzalez has made significant contributions to the field through presentations at various conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals. His research spans topics such as vascular disrupting agents in leukemia treatment, novel treatments for retinal conditions, and the economic impact of different therapeutic approaches in retinopathy of prematurity.
Dr. Gonzalez brings a visionary approach to medicine, blending academic excellence, compassionate care, and a commitment to advancing ophthalmological knowledge.
