When it comes to one of our most precious personal assets—our eyes—it is comforting to know there are choices for caring for them at any age. Here we will discuss problematic vision conditions and specific solutions in restoring your sight to peak performance.

All-Laser LASIK

Whether you have nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, LASIK is the most popular refractive surgery in the U.S. Even at the “tender” adult age of 18, if you are wearing glasses and/or contacts, and you experience one or two of these common vision issues, then LASIK may be the right choice for you. Ninety-six percent (96%) of patients report seeing 20/20 or better immediately—usually within 24 hours!—after having All-Laser LASIK surgery at Mann Eye Institute.

The procedure is safe, effective and fast, completed within 10-15 minutes for both eyes. It involves sophisticated laser technology in which the surgeon uses a computer to adjust the laser for your specific vision needs. You will look at a light target for a very short period while the laser sends pulses of light to gently reshape your cornea. At Mann Eye, we do not use blades and that should be your biggest consideration in choosing the right provider—our brand of LASIK is all laser, all the time.

We are pleased to offer patients the new EX500 Excimer Laser, an advanced technology that reaches the next level of precision, accuracy and speed. Paired with the FS200 Femtosecond Laser, as part of our advanced WaveLight Refractive Surgery Suite, treatment with the EX500 represents a quantum leap in LASIK surgery.

Refractive Lens Exchange

Fact: LASIK is not for everyone, especially as age creeps in to disrupt your vision. If you are over 40, you may have noticed a change in vision. Literally, this change can happen overnight—even if you’ve had “perfect” vision in your younger years. You will suddenly have difficulty reading print or online text, or focusing on nearby objects. This condition is called age-related presbyopia, or “over-40 vision.” It is an unrelated vision condition and LASIK cannot prevent it. Nothing exciting to see here! Except for the good news that doctors at Mann Eye can help!

One of the popular presbyopia-correcting options is refractive (clear) lens exchange (RLE). In this procedure, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens to improve vision. Refractive lens exchange can effectively reduce the need for reading glasses with the use of a multifocal IOL or an accommodative IOL. In addition to restoring significant near vision, these premium intraocular lenses also provide clear distance vision without glasses. An added bonus is that refractive lens exchange eliminates the possibility of the development of cataracts in the future since the natural lens is removed and replaced with an IOL.

Laser Cataract Surgery

You do not want to waste your prime years with cloudy vision, loss of color perception and bad night sight. These signs are likely the development of a cataract that clouds the eye’s natural lens and blocks it from being able to focus light on the retina. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 50, affecting more than 22 million Americans.

Cataract surgery is very successful in restoring your precious vision. Think about this option when your cataracts have progressed enough to seriously impair your vision and affect your daily life. During surgery, your Mann Eye doctor will remove your clouded lens and replace it with a clear IOL. It is a simple and highly successful procedure. In fact, nine out of 10 people who have cataract surgery live with very good vision, between 20/20 and 20/40.

Mann Eye Institute is pleased to offer our proprietary Active Life Lens™ technologies that can correct your cataracts AND get you out of your glasses or bifocals. Active Life Lenses restore your vision to a greater degree, for instance correcting astigmatism and providing sharp vision at far, intermediate and near distances. Depending on your lifestyle and your vision goals, there is an Active Life Lens for you
